Assam Police Dismantle Two Sex Rackets in Separate Operations

Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on illicit activities, Assam Police on Tuesday night busted two separate sex rackets operating in different districts of the state. The operations led to the arrest of multiple individuals and the rescue of several victims, including a minor girl, officials confirmed.

First Operation in Kamrup (Metropolitan) District

The first incident occurred in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, where a team from Geetanagar Police Station conducted a raid on an alleged prostitution racket running under the guise of a spa in the Geetanagar area. Police reported that eight women working there were rescued.

A police officer from Geetanagar stated that the raid was based on specific intelligence inputs. “We carried out the operation at Geetanagar’s Uday Path. The accused were running the racket illegally behind the spa business. The rescued women were being exploited and hailed from different parts of the state,” the officer said.

The names of the rescued women have been withheld at their request for anonymity.

Second Operation in Sonitpur District

In a separate incident in Sonitpur district, police arrested a woman and rescued a minor girl. Barun Purakayastha, SSP of Sonitpur, identified the accused as Sima Das (31) of Murhateteli village under Tezpur Police Station.

“Information was received at Kacharigaon Outpost regarding sexual exploitation of a minor girl in the Murhateteli area. Both minors were brought for interrogation, during which it was learned that Sima Das was sexually exploiting one of them for wrongful financial gain,” the SSP said.

A case has been registered at Tezpur Police Station, and the minor has been placed in the safe custody of the Sakhi One Stop Centre for further legal action.

Police have assured that investigations are ongoing in both cases, and further arrests are expected.
