Assam Police Constable Dies by Suicide in Dhemaji Jail Premises
In a tragic incident, an Assam Police constable allegedly died by suicide on Friday within the premises of the district jail in Dhemaji. According to police officials, the deceased constable has been identified as Palash Gogoi, aged 34.
Details of the Deceased Constable
Palash Gogoi hailed from Ghilamara town in Lakhimpur district and was a member of the 22nd Assam Police Battalion (APBN). He was serving on duty at the Dhemaji district jail at the time of the incident.
Circumstances of the Incident
Gogoi died by firing from his own service rifle and succumbed to his injuries on the spot, as confirmed by police officials. Fellow personnel discovered him inside the jail compound, prompting immediate notification to senior officers who rushed to the scene.
Dhemaji district's Senior Superintendent of Police, Swapnaneel Deka, stated, "Gogoi was on duty at the jail when, without any warning, he shot himself with his own rifle." This sudden act has left the police community in shock.
