A tragic hit-and-run incident in Bengaluru has claimed the life of a man and left his wife and daughter injured. The accident occurred late on Tuesday night when a speeding Audi struck the family near a busy junction in the city. The driver of the luxury vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victims critically wounded.
Incident Details
The victims were crossing the road when the Audi, reportedly traveling at high speed, hit them. The man, identified as 45-year-old Ramesh Kumar, died on the spot due to severe injuries. His wife, aged 40, and their 12-year-old daughter sustained multiple fractures and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Challenges in Identification
Although CCTV cameras installed in the area captured the accident, the Audi's high-beam headlights obscured its registration number, making identification of the vehicle difficult. Police are analyzing footage from multiple angles and have launched a search for the driver. Authorities have formed special teams to track down the absconding driver, who is believed to be a resident of the city.
Police Investigation
Senior police officials visited the spot and assured strict action. We are examining all available evidence and will apprehend the culprit soon, said a police spokesperson. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash driving. The vehicle is suspected to be a black Audi with a temporary or fake number plate.
Public Outrage
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who have demanded better traffic enforcement and stricter penalties for hit-and-run cases. Many took to social media to express their grief and anger. Activists have called for immediate installation of high-resolution cameras that can capture license plates even under glare conditions.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first such case in Bengaluru. In 2024, a similar hit-and-run involving a luxury car had led to protests. The city has seen a rise in such incidents, prompting authorities to consider measures like mandatory speed governors and enhanced surveillance in accident-prone zones.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the driver's arrest. They have also urged the driver to surrender voluntarily.
