Police Encounter in Azamgarh Leads to Arrest of Two Cow Slaughter Accused
In a dramatic late-night incident on Wednesday, the Mubarakpur police in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, successfully apprehended two individuals accused of cow slaughter following a brief encounter in the Bawan Bigha area of Gajhara. The operation unfolded after authorities received a tip-off about the suspects' movements, leading to a confrontation that resulted in both accused sustaining bullet injuries to their legs.
Details of the Police Operation
According to CO (Sadar) Astha Jaiswal, the Mubarakpur police station in-charge, Shashi Mauli Pandey, and his team were engaged in routine night patrolling when they obtained critical information. The tip-off indicated that criminals involved in slaughtering stray cattle were heading towards Samodhi on a motorcycle. Acting swiftly, the police cordoned off the Bawan Bigha area in Gajhara and attempted to intercept the suspects.
Upon spotting the police team, the motorcycle-borne miscreants attempted a U-turn to flee but lost control of their vehicle and fell. In a desperate bid to escape, they opened fire at the police officers. The police retaliated in self-defense, resulting in both suspects being shot in the legs and subsequently captured.
Identification and Confession of the Accused
The arrested individuals were identified as Imran, aged 28, and Kasid, aged 21, both residents of Bamhaur village. During interrogation, they confessed to stealing a calf on the night of March 20 from Bamhaura village and slaughtering it with the intention of selling the meat. This admission came after police recovered the remains of the butchered calf from a local orchard, an incident that had previously sparked significant tension in the area.
Recovery of Evidence and Legal Proceedings
Following the arrest, police seized two country-made pistols, several cartridges, and a motorcycle bearing a fake registration number from the accused. The injured suspects were promptly rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. The case had been initiated based on a complaint filed by a woman, prompting police to launch a search operation for the perpetrators. Authorities have now lodged a formal case and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
