Baachhda gang member arrested for slingshot attack on police

Bhilwara: A 20-year-old man, allegedly a member of Madhya Pradesh's Baachhda gang, was arrested on Monday following a slingshot attack that seriously injured a police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) during a night patrol in Bhilwara's Kotdi police station area.

Incident Details

Kotdi Station House Officer Mahavir Meena reported that ASI Kailash Chandra and Constable Banwari Lal were patrolling in a police 112 vehicle late Sunday night when they reached Mansa village crossroads. There, they spotted suspected thieves attempting to break into a jeweller's shop.

As the police approached, one youth fled into a village lane. The ASI dropped the constable near the shop and pursued the suspect. He managed to apprehend one individual, but three others allegedly rushed towards the police vehicle and attacked him with a slingshot. The stone struck the ASI's ear, causing profuse bleeding. He was taken to Kotdi hospital, where he received 13 stitches.

Police Response

Upon being informed, Meena arrived at the scene. Police examined CCTV footage, set up blockades, and registered a case under sections related to obstruction of government work and a life-threatening attack on police personnel.

On Monday, police arrested Ashish Baachhda (20), a member of the Baachhda gang. He is currently being interrogated. Teams have been formed to trace three accomplices who remain at large.

Previous Offenses

Meena noted that women members of the same gang had previously stolen jewellery from women at Charbhuja temple during Holi, hiding the items in their private parts. Police recovered the jewellery after X-ray examination and extraction by women specialists on a medical board.
