In a disturbing incident, the body of a young man was discovered under mysterious conditions in a hotel room in Balasore town on Saturday. The event has triggered a police investigation and left a family in mourning, with key individuals connected to the case currently untraceable.

The deceased has been identified as Akash Mahanta, a 25-year-old resident of Bada Jambani village in Mayurbhanj district. The grim discovery was made in a room on the third floor of a hotel near Balia, within the limits of the Sahadevkhunta police station. According to police sources, the body had been lying in the room since Friday. The situation came to light when hotel staff grew suspicious after noticing the room remained locked for an extended period with no response from inside. The hotel owner subsequently alerted the authorities.
Preliminary information reveals a puzzling sequence of events. Investigators learned that two days prior to the incident, two young men had checked into the hotel along with a woman. However, later, one of the youths reportedly left the premises. The woman who was staying with Akash Mahanta is now missing, and police are actively working to locate her. Authorities are also verifying whether the other youth was present at the hotel at the time of the incident.
Family's Allegations and Police Response
The victim's family has raised serious allegations. Akash's mother stated that her son had traveled to Balasore with another person from their village, identified as Ram. The purpose of the visit was to collect admit cards after applying for a home guard recruitment drive. She alleged that while Ram returned to the village alone, her son did not.
In a more direct accusation, the deceased's wife claimed that Ram was responsible for her husband's death. She asserted that Akash had no known enmity or disputes with anyone, suggesting foul play. The family has lodged a formal complaint with the police.
Responding to the case, Biranchi Sahoo, the IIC of Sahadevkhunta police station, confirmed that a special investigation team has been formed. "Searches are being conducted at different locations to trace the woman and ascertain the exact sequence of events," Sahoo said. He added that the precise cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem examination is completed.
