Ballari Police Intensify Crackdown, Registering Over 127 Cases in Major Month-Long Operation
In a significant move to curb rampant illegal activities, Ballari Superintendent of Police Suman DP has announced that police have registered more than 127 cases across the district over the past month through a series of coordinated raids. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, SP Suman detailed the extensive enforcement actions, which targeted a wide range of unlawful operations disrupting public order and safety.
Wide-Ranging Cases Registered Across Multiple Illegal Sectors
The police crackdown has been comprehensive, with 47 cases related to matka (illegal betting) and 24 cases of gambling registered during this intensive period. Additionally, authorities have booked 19 cases concerning illegal sand transportation, which often leads to environmental degradation and revenue loss. The operation also netted 25 cases of illegal liquor sale, addressing public health concerns, and 13 cases involving the illegal transportation of ration rice, which undermines food security systems.
Substantial seizures have accompanied these legal actions, including 22 bullock carts and 25 cars that were being used to facilitate these illicit activities. SP Suman emphasized that raids were not limited to street-level operations but extended to the residences of suspected kingpins believed to be orchestrating these networks. Continuous follow-up actions are being rigorously pursued to dismantle these criminal enterprises from the top down.
Major Ore Seizure Highlights Investigation into Illegal Mining
In a particularly notable development, SP Suman referenced the illegal import of ore from NMDC, based on critical information provided by truck driver Thippeswamy. Acting on this tip, police conducted targeted operations resulting in the seizure of 1,050 tonnes of material from Sai Balaji company and an additional 1,000 tonnes from Nobel Ispat company. This massive confiscation, totaling 2,050 tonnes, underscores the scale of the illegal mining and transportation activities plaguing the region.
The investigation is now focused on uncovering the masterminds behind this large-scale illegal ore activity, with SP Suman stating that police are diligently working to identify and apprehend those responsible. Furthermore, the SP revealed that there is emerging information regarding the potential involvement of dealers in a urea scam, indicating that the scope of the investigations may broaden. She confirmed that this matter is currently under active investigation, with details to be disclosed as the probe progresses.
This month-long police initiative in Ballari represents a robust effort to restore law and order, targeting both low-level offenses and high-stakes illegal operations. The public is urged to cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities, as the police continue their vigilant campaign against crime in the district.
