Ballari: The Ballari police have registered 18 cases related to Indian Premier League (IPL) betting during the months of March and April this year, according to a press release issued on Saturday. In these cases, 41 accused individuals were arrested, and the police seized Rs 59,860 in cash along with 17 mobile phones valued at Rs 84,700.
Gambling and Matka Cases
During the two-month period, the police also registered 29 gambling cases, in which 244 accused were booked and Rs 4,06,640 was seized. In 29 matka-related cases, 54 accused were booked, and Rs 20,43,610 was seized.
Illegal Sand Transportation
In connection with illegal sand transportation, 17 cases were registered against 38 accused persons. The police seized Rs 96,600 and confiscated 80 metric tonnes of sand.

The police also released details of major criminal cases reported in the district on May 8.
Attempted Murder at APMC Market
In a case registered at the APMC police station, three persons were booked under attempted murder charges. The police identified the accused as Vamshikrishna, Uday, and Rangaswamy. They were arrested and remanded to judicial custody in connection with an assault reported at the APMC market area in Ballari city on May 7.
SC/ST Atrocity Case at Kare Mori Village
In another case registered at the Ballari Rural police station, the police booked 36 persons under various sections of the BNS and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case pertains to an alleged assault and abuse incident reported on May 8 at Kare Mori village in Kolagallu hobli of Ballari taluk, where two individuals were allegedly attacked by a group.
Kidnapping of a Minor
A kidnapping case was registered at the Gandhinagar police station after a 17-year-old boy allegedly went missing following an abduction by unidentified persons.
Attempted Murder at Kurugodu
An attempted murder case was also registered at the Kurugodu police station. The complaint stated that Shameena Banu of Virapur village in Ballari district was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Dadawali, and his relatives with an intention to kill her.
