Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay's son, Bandi Bageerath, surrendered before the Telangana police on Saturday night at around 8 pm. He was later taken to the Narsingi police station. Bageerath has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a minor girl's family accused him of sexually abusing her.
Surrender Details
Officials confirmed that Bageerath surrendered near the Telangana State Police Academy on the Outer Ring Road. At the time of surrender, he was wearing a hoodie and a mask. His father, Bandi Sanjay, issued a statement claiming that he made his son surrender because he felt that a considerable amount of time had passed since the complaint was registered.
Legal Proceedings
After the High Court refused to grant Bageerath interim protection from arrest on Friday night, police officials intensified efforts to trace him. The Cyberabad police had even issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Bageerath after investigating officials searched various locations, including Bandi Sanjay's official residence in New Delhi on Friday night, but were unable to track him down.
In his statement, Sanjay said: "Immediately after the case was registered against my son, I considered bringing him to the police. Based on the advice given by my lawyers, we tried to get bail, which led to a delay."
Victim Statement Recorded
Meanwhile, the survivor's statement was recorded before a magistrate on Saturday. The case continues to be investigated under the POCSO Act, which provides for stringent penalties in cases of sexual offenses against minors.
