Bangladeshi Gets 3-Year Jail For Fake Indian Documents

A special court in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced a Bangladeshi national to three years of imprisonment for obtaining forged Indian identity documents, securing a fake passport, and illegally registering land in West Bengal. The verdict was delivered on Monday by Special Judge Ramkripal, who also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, identified as Abdul Amin.

According to Superintendent of Police Ballia, Omvir Singh, a case was registered on March 14, 2023, at the Kotwali police station in Ballia against Amin. The case was filed based on a written complaint by Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) Varanasi unit. Amin, who hails from a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, was charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Foreigners Act.

Allegations and Investigation

Prosecution sources revealed that Amin, with the help of individuals from Ballia, illegally obtained Indian identity documents through fraudulent means. Using these forged documents, he got land registered in his name in the Hooghly district of West Bengal.
