A 26-year-old bank employee narrowly escaped a serious accident on Thursday when motorcycle-borne robbers intercepted her scooter and snatched a purse containing keys to a high-security bank vault.
Incident Details
Krishti Sharma was commuting home to Shekhewal when two men on a motorcycle began tailing her near Chand Cinema. The pair initially attempted to block her path, but when she refused to stop, they lunged at the moving scooter and grabbed her handbag from the floorboard. The force of the snatch nearly caused Krishti to lose control of her vehicle. Despite the shock, she raised an alarm and attempted to pursue the thieves before they vanished into traffic.
Stolen Items
The woman told police: "The purse contained Rs 20,000, my mobile phone, debit cards, and the keys to the bank's main vault." The stolen keys grant access to the branch's secure storage for cash, gold, and legal documents. The loss of these keys poses a significant security risk to the bank.
Police Investigation
Krishti borrowed a phone from a passerby to alert the cops. Division Number 4 police have registered a case and are trying to identify the suspects. "The scene had no surveillance cameras," said head constable Hardeep Singh. "We are now tracking the suspects' escape route by reviewing footage from nearest shops and intersections." The police are also examining other possible leads and have stepped up patrols in the area.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of bank employees who handle sensitive keys and valuables. The bank has been advised to review its security protocols and consider alternative measures for key custody.
