The Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh has registered a remarkable decline in criminal activities for the year 2025, showcasing significant improvements across multiple law and order parameters. The most striking figure is an overall 15.33 percent reduction in total registered crime cases, dropping from 6,242 in 2024 to 5,285 in 2025.
Major Declines in Violent and Property Crimes
A detailed breakdown reveals encouraging trends in specific crime categories. Offences against the human body, a critical indicator of public safety, saw a substantial decrease of 19 percent, with cases falling from 922 to 749. Property-related offences also dipped by 6.97 percent, from 416 to 387 cases. However, an interesting paradox emerged here: while the number of property crimes decreased, the total value of property lost increased from Rs 3.81 crore to Rs 5.34 crore.
On a positive note, police recovery performance saw a major boost. The value of recovered property jumped from Rs 2.32 crore to Rs 3.62 crore. Consequently, the recovery rate improved from 61 percent to a more robust 68 percent.
Sharp Falls in Crimes Against Women, Cybercrime, and Drugs
The data shows promising progress in safeguarding vulnerable sections. Crimes against women reduced by 7.04 percent, from 582 to 538 cases. Even more notably, cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act plummeted by 35 percent, from 63 to 41.
One of the standout successes is in the realm of cybercrime. Through proactive surveillance and rapid response, the district police achieved a 37.36 percent decline in cybercrime cases, which fell from 91 to 57. Enforcement under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act also intensified. While cases dropped by 66.66% (from 15 to 5) and arrests reduced from 66 to 20, seizures of dry ganja increased from 48.53 kg to 67.64 kg, indicating a focused crackdown on supply networks.
Dramatic Improvement in Judicial Outcomes & Proactive Policing
The judicial machinery in Bapatla witnessed a transformative year. Court disposals and convictions skyrocketed. In 2024, courts disposed of 1,359 cases with 440 convictions. In 2025, these numbers surged to 4,088 disposals and 1,319 convictions, marking an incredible 199.77 percent increase in the number of convictions.
Proactive community engagement was spearheaded by five dedicated Shakthi teams, which conducted 2,611 awareness programmes. The Shakthi app saw 66,000 new registrations, enhancing outreach, especially among women. During Cyclone Montha, the police's disaster response was swift and effective. They established 138 rehabilitation centres, evacuated over 7,000 people, and cleared hundreds of obstructions to restore connectivity, directly contributing to saving 25 lives.
Notable Crackdowns on Financial Fraud and Vehicle Theft
The district police scored significant victories against organized crime. Special teams cracked large-scale 'digital arrest' and impersonation frauds, tracing money trails across multiple states including Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. In one prominent case, they froze and refunded Rs 1.06 crore to a retired district judge
A targeted operation against two-wheeler theft rings led to the arrest of three accused and the recovery of 120 stolen motorcycles
While road accidents saw a marginal 4% increase (from 522 to 542), the overarching narrative for Bapatla district in 2025 is one of enhanced policing efficiency, greater judicial accountability, and a tangible improvement in public safety metrics.
