Bar Council Elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Conclude with Robust Participation

The elections to elect 23 members for the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry successfully concluded on Monday, marked by an impressive voter turnout exceeding 80%. Supreme Court-Appointed Committee Oversees Peaceful Polling

The election process was meticulously conducted by a high-power committee constituted by the Supreme Court of India. This committee was headed by former Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Rajiv Shakdher, ensuring a fair and transparent electoral environment. According to S Prabakaran, vice-chairman of the Bar Council of India, the elections proceeded peacefully across all polling stations, with approximately 80,000 votes cast throughout Tamil Nadu. He attributed the smooth conduct to the effective oversight of the Supreme Court-appointed committee.

Innovative QR Code System and Widespread Polling Booths

In a notable first, the election introduced a QR code system for verifying voter details, enhancing the efficiency and security of the voting process. Polling was conducted across a total of 168 booths, including 166 in Tamil Nadu and two in Puducherry, facilitating accessibility for lawyers in both regions. A total of 143 candidates contested for the 23 available positions, reflecting a competitive electoral landscape.
