Cook Found Dead in Bareilly PWD Colony Residence
Police in Bareilly discovered a tragic scene on Friday morning. A 50-year-old cook was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the official residence of a Public Works Department officer.
Victim Identified as Virendra Singh
Virendra Singh worked as a cook for superintending engineer KK Singh. He lived in the PWD colony under the Kotwali police station area. According to police reports, Singh went to sleep in his room as usual on Thursday night.
When the door remained closed until late morning, local residents grew concerned. They alerted the police about the unusual situation. Officers arrived at the scene and broke open the door.
Suspicious Discovery in Closed Room
Inside the room, police found Virendra Singh unconscious. A burning coal brazier, commonly known as an angithi, was discovered in the closed space. This immediately raised suspicions of possible suffocation.
Emergency responders rushed Singh to the district hospital. Doctors examined him and declared him dead upon arrival. Police conducted a preliminary examination of the body.
Police Investigation Underway
Officers reported finding no injury marks on the body. They also noted no signs of any struggle in the room. Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya confirmed the case is being investigated from all possible angles.
Initial findings point toward carbon monoxide inhalation as the likely cause of death. The closed room with a burning coal brazier created dangerous conditions. However, police emphasized that the exact cause will only be confirmed after complete post-mortem examination.
The body has been sent for autopsy to determine the precise circumstances of death. Police continue to investigate whether any foul play was involved in the incident.
This tragic event has shaken the PWD colony community in Bareilly. Residents expressed shock at the sudden death of the cook who had been a familiar presence in the neighborhood.
