Bareilly Authorities Crack Down on LPG Black Marketing with Major Raid
In a significant enforcement action, a joint team from the Bareilly district administration and police conducted a targeted raid on Sunday, resulting in the seizure of 22 domestic LPG cylinders. The operation took place at a distribution shop located in Jafarpur village under Mirganj tehsil, addressing growing concerns over black marketing during an ongoing LPG supply shortage.
Tip-Off Leads to Major Recovery
Acting on a specific tip-off regarding the illegal storage and sale of domestic cylinders at prices exceeding government-fixed rates, officials from the supply department, led by Supply Inspector Ravi Kumar Saxena, collaborated with Shishgarh police to execute the raid. The swift action underscores the authorities' commitment to curbing malpractices that exacerbate public inconvenience.
Mirganj SDM Alok Kumar emphasized that strict measures will persist against black marketing and illegal hoarding of essential commodities. "We are determined to prevent any disruption to public access and ensure fair distribution," he stated, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain market integrity.
Details of the Seizure and Legal Action
Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya provided specifics on the recovery, noting, "Twenty-two cylinders—comprising three filled and 19 empty units—were confiscated from the premises. These cylinders had been stockpiled unlawfully and were being sold covertly to customers, blatantly violating established gas distribution norms."
In response to the violations, police have initiated legal proceedings by registering an FIR under sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The case targets unidentified persons, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to identify and hold accountable those involved in the illicit activities.
Broader Context of LPG Supply Challenges
This raid occurs against a backdrop of widespread LPG shortage panic, prompting the central government to urge citizens against hoarding cylinders and to consider alternatives like PNG. The enforcement action in Bareilly serves as a stark reminder of the regulatory vigilance being exercised to combat exploitation during supply constraints.
The joint operation highlights the critical role of inter-departmental coordination in addressing public grievances and ensuring the equitable distribution of essential resources. As authorities continue their crackdown, such initiatives aim to deter future violations and safeguard consumer interests in the region.
