Major Drug Bust in Barmer: Police Seize 187kg of Chemicals
In a significant crackdown on illegal drug manufacturing, the Barmer District Special Team (DST) and Dhorimanna police conducted a major raid on Monday, seizing a substantial 187 kilograms of chemicals allegedly intended for the production of MD drugs. The operation targeted a house located in the Dhani area of Kharad village, situated amidst the remote sand dunes of Rajasthan's Barmer district.
Details of the Raid and Seizure
The police action was executed based on a specific tip-off received by a DST constable, leading to a coordinated effort under the leadership of Dhorimanna Station House Officer (SHO) Deepsingh. Upon raiding the premises, authorities discovered the chemicals stored inside a large blue drum. No individuals were present at the house during the search, although investigators noted that an electricity connection had been established, presumably to power the suspected drug manufacturing unit.
The house is registered under the name of Sohanlal, son of Gularam Vishnoi. Police inputs indicated that Sohanlal, along with Surendra, son of Tejaram Vishnoi, and another unidentified accomplice, had recently transported drums containing prohibited chemicals and equipment to the location with the intent of setting up an illicit MD production facility.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Following the seizure, a formal case has been registered at the Dhorimanna police station against Sohanlal, Surendra, and the unnamed third individual. The charges have been filed under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which governs offenses related to drug trafficking and manufacturing in India.
Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena emphasized that this operation is a crucial component of the ongoing "Drug Free Barmer" campaign, aimed at eradicating narcotics-related activities from the district. Police teams are actively working to trace and apprehend the accused persons, who remain at large as the investigation progresses.
Pattern of Drug Manufacturing Units in Barmer
This incident marks the fifth detection of an MD manufacturing unit in Barmer district over the past two years, highlighting a persistent challenge for law enforcement. Previous similar actions have been carried out in villages including Ramsar, Sedwa, Adarsh Chawa, and Bhairudi, demonstrating a recurring pattern of illicit drug production attempts in the region.
The consistent efforts by Barmer police underscore their commitment to combating the drug trade, with each raid contributing to the broader strategy of disrupting supply chains and preventing the proliferation of synthetic drugs in the area. Authorities continue to urge public cooperation and vigilance to support these initiatives.
