Adhikari Demands Swift Action in Baruipur Case
West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday demanded a detailed police report within 72 hours regarding the rape and murder of a woman in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas. He asserted that the victim of the subsequent mob lynching was innocent.
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari stated that around 200 individuals involved in damaging public property during protests have been identified. He called for strict action against the perpetrators.
Victim Declared Innocent by Opposition Leader
“The person who was lynched by the mob had no role in the crime. He was innocent,” Adhikari said, according to PTI. He urged the state government to ensure justice for the rape-murder victim and her family.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, leading to violent protests in Baruipur. Demonstrators vandalized vehicles and clashed with police. Adhikari criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government for failing to maintain law and order.
Police Identify 200 Protestors
Adhikari revealed that authorities have identified approximately 200 people who damaged public property during the unrest. He demanded that they be booked under relevant sections of the law.
The opposition leader also questioned the delay in the police investigation, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution. “The state must submit a comprehensive report within three days,” he added.
Background of the Incident
The Baruipur rape-murder occurred earlier this week, triggering public anger. The victim, a young woman, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. A mob later attacked and killed a suspect, leading to further tensions.
Local authorities have deployed additional forces to prevent further violence. The case has become a political flashpoint, with the BJP accusing the Trinamool Congress government of mishandling the situation.
