Ceiling Slab Collapse in Gurugram Society Basement Damages Vehicles

A significant section of the concrete ceiling slab in the basement parking area of Adani Oyster Society in Sector 102A, Gurugram, collapsed onto parked cars on Tuesday, causing damage to multiple vehicles. The incident occurred in the B1 basement of Tower H, where heavy chunks of concrete and plaster suddenly gave way and fell onto the vehicles below. Residents, startled by the loud noise of falling debris, rushed to safety in panic. Fortunately, no one was present in the immediate area at the time of the collapse.

Eyewitness Accounts and Panic

According to eyewitnesses, a massive amount of concrete and plaster debris fell from the basement ceiling. The sound of the collapse was so loud that many initially thought it was an earthquake. Residents noted that people, including children, frequently pass through the parking area, raising concerns about potential casualties had the collapse occurred at a busier time.

Residents Express Anger and Fear Over Structural Safety

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who are questioning the structural integrity of the society. Many have expressed their anger on social media and through the Residents' Welfare Association (RWA). A resident said, “This incident has exposed the poor quality of the builder’s construction. The residents’ primary concern is that the building is only six years old. If concrete slabs and ceiling sections begin collapsing within such a short period, what will be the fate of the society in the next 10 or 20 years?”

RWA Vice-President Highlights Residents' Distress

Alka Malhotra, vice-president of the Society RWA, stated that residents who spent crores of rupees to purchase their homes now feel cheated and unsafe. She emphasized that the collapse has shaken the confidence of homeowners. Repeated attempts to contact the builder and the maintenance agency for their response were unsuccessful.

Concerns Over Quality of Construction

The collapse has raised serious questions about the quality of construction used in the society. With the building being only six years old, residents fear that similar incidents could occur in other parts of the complex, jeopardizing the safety of their homes and families. The RWA is expected to demand a thorough structural audit of all buildings in the society.
