Bathinda Police Arrest Accused After Brief Encounter in Village
Police in Bathinda have successfully arrested an accused individual named Sewak Singh. The arrest occurred after a brief encounter in Katar Singh Wala village within the district on Saturday. Sewak Singh was a wanted man in connection with a serious case involving a threat call made to an immigration consultant.
Details of the Threat Call Case
Senior Superintendent of Police Jyoti Yadav provided details about the case. An immigration consultant named Beant Singh operates from Gulabgarh village. He has offices in Mohali and Dubai. Beant Singh received calls from unknown numbers on January 9 and 10. The caller demanded a hefty sum of Rs 1 crore. The caller warned Beant Singh of dire consequences if he failed to pay the money.
Police promptly registered a case against an unknown person under relevant legal sections. The investigation into this threat call began immediately.
Police Action and Encounter
During their investigations, police officers traced the location of the suspect to the area around Katar Singh Wala village. A police party reached the area to apprehend the accused. Sewak Singh was riding a motorbike at the time. He fired shots at the police party upon their arrival.
The police retaliated in self-defense. A bullet struck Sewak Singh in the leg during the exchange of fire. This injury led to his capture by the authorities.
Background of the Accused and Hospitalization
Sewak Singh is not a first-time offender. He already faces two separate cases under the NDPS Act and theft charges. After the encounter, police admitted him to the civil hospital in Bathinda for medical treatment of his leg injury.
