Tragic Incident at Beed Police Recruitment Drive Claims Candidate's Life
A 26-year-old resident of Parli, participating in the ongoing police recruitment drive in Beed, tragically passed away on Wednesday after complaining of uneasiness following the mandatory 1,600-metre run. The incident has cast a shadow over the recruitment process, raising concerns about safety protocols during physical tests.
Details of the Fatal Event
Police identified the deceased as Deepak Bhaskar Wavhale from Parli in Beed district. According to officials, Wavhale completed the run at the Beed district police ground. CCTV footage captured his participation, but shortly after finishing, he reported exhaustion and discomfort.
An officer involved in the incident stated, "Around 12.55pm, he complained of exhaustion and uneasiness, and walked towards the medical room adjacent to the finishing point after taking rest for a brief period. A medical team and a doctor stationed at the ground immediately attended to him. He was administered preliminary treatment, including intravenous (IV) fluids. The team immediately called for an ambulance after detecting a low pulse rate."
Emergency Response and Medical Assessment
Senior officers were alerted and reached the medical camp by 1.08pm. An ambulance arrived at 1.10pm and transported Wavhale to the Civil Hospital in Beed by 1.14pm. Unfortunately, he was declared dead by the attending doctors soon after arrival.
Preliminary medical opinions indicate that Wavhale might have suffered a heart attack, with dehydration suspected as a possible contributing factor. However, the exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination, which is currently underway.

Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat addressed the incident, emphasizing that comprehensive arrangements had been made for the recruitment exercise. He said, "All possible arrangements, including a pandal, drinking water facilities and a medical team, were in place. It is an unfortunate incident. An accidental death case has been registered."
Kanwat further explained that the physical tests were scheduled to avoid peak heat hours as a precautionary measure. He added, "Further medical and legal procedures are under way." The recruitment process, which began on Wednesday, aims to fill 174 police constable posts in Beed, similar to other police units across Maharashtra.
