Begusarai Man Gunned Down in Village, Family Points to Witness Intimidation
A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Begusarai district on Wednesday evening, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old man. The victim, identified as Mintu Kumar, a resident of Rachiyahi village under the Singhaul police station area, was allegedly shot dead over an old enmity, with his family now claiming the murder is connected to his role as a key witness in a previous criminal case.
Evening Outing Turns Tragic
According to police reports and family statements, Mintu Kumar had visited a local vegetable market in the evening along with his brother, Pintu Kumar. While returning home, Mintu was reportedly called aside by one individual named Kumar and three others. Pintu Kumar stated that he advised his brother not to go with them, but Mintu did not heed the warning.
"I asked him not to go with them, but he didn't listen. Later, around 11 pm, we received a call informing us that he had been shot dead," said Pintu Kumar, recounting the harrowing sequence of events.
Body Found Dumped in Field, Police Launch Investigation
Law enforcement authorities later discovered Mintu's body dumped in a field within the village. Begusarai SDPO-1 Anand Kumar Pandey confirmed that the case is under active investigation from all possible angles. "The case is being investigated from all possible angles. Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the accused," stated Pandey.
The police official also noted that Mintu Kumar had criminal antecedents and had recently been released on bail earlier this month, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.
Family Alleges Murder Linked to Previous Case
In a distressing twist, family members have alleged that the murder is directly linked to a previous case in which Mintu Kumar was a key witness. Pintu Kumar claimed that their elder brother was killed by criminals approximately four years ago, and the accused in that case had been pressuring Mintu not to testify against them.
"Since he refused to give any assurance, they shot him dead and threw his body in a field," asserted Pintu, highlighting the family's belief that witness intimidation led to the fatal shooting.
