A shocking incident of filicide and attempted suicide has rocked the Begusarai district of Bihar, stemming from alleged family discord over an extramarital affair. The tragic event occurred on Tuesday night in the Suja Shanti Nagar area under the Lakho police station jurisdiction.
What Happened in Suja Shanti Nagar?
According to police officials, 21-year-old Asha Devi allegedly administered poison to her three-year-old son, Devraj, before consuming poison herself in a bid to end her life. The immediate trigger for this extreme step appears to be intense opposition from her family regarding her relationship with another man.
The Dial-112 emergency response team rushed to the spot after receiving information and admitted both mother and child to the hospital. Tragically, young Devraj could not be saved and was pronounced dead. Asha Devi remains hospitalized and is undergoing treatment in a critical condition.
The Affair and Family Conflict
Police investigations, based on the woman's alleged confession, reveal that Asha was in an extramarital relationship with a man named Rajaram Kumar, whom she had met on social media. Her husband, Gorelal Sah, discovered the affair and warned her to end it.
However, Asha continued the relationship, leading to frequent and severe clashes with her husband and in-laws. Asha Devi was married in 2021. In her statement to the police, she claimed, “My husband caught me talking to my lover and beat me up. Later, my in-laws kept scolding me. So I decided to end my husband’s lineage. I first killed my son by giving him poison and then consumed poison myself. When I regained consciousness, I was in the hospital.”
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Sadar-1 SDPO Anand Kumar Pandey confirmed the sequence of events and the motive suspected by the police. “The incident appears linked to her affair. After receiving information, the Dial-112 team rushed to the spot and admitted both to the hospital. Devraj died, while Asha’s treatment is ongoing. A case has been registered and investigation is underway,” stated the SDPO.
The police are proceeding with their inquiry, treating the woman's statement as a key part of the evidence. The case highlights a devastating outcome of domestic conflict and has sent shockwaves through the local community in Begusarai.
