In a significant late-night operation, the Malamaruti police in Belagavi successfully arrested two individuals and seized a cache of illegal firearms, live ammunition, and other suspicious materials. The raid was conducted on National Highway-48 near KLE Cross in the early hours of Sunday, based on specific intelligence inputs received by the authorities.

Details of the Arrest and Seizure

The accused have been identified as Ravindra Kuntinath Nayak, aged 37, and Shahid Raisahammad Patel, aged 21. Both are residents of Anganur in the Sangli district of Maharashtra. According to an official press release from the police department, the operation was meticulously planned and executed at approximately 12:15 am.

Interception and Recovery

The duo was traveling from Kolhapur towards Dharwad when they parked their car by the roadside. A police team swiftly intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search. During this inspection, law enforcement officers discovered pistols and ammunition cleverly concealed within a black bag.

Supervision and Leadership

The operation was carried out under the expert supervision of Market Assistant Commissioner of Police Santosh Satyanayak and the strategic guidance of Malamaruti Inspector BR Gaddakar. The raid was led by Police Sub-Inspector Honnappa Talawara, who was assisted by his dedicated staff members.

Items Seized and Legal Actions

Police confiscated a range of items from the accused, including two country-made pistols, four live rounds of ammunition, an 8 GB memory card, 25 SIM cards, a mobile phone, and the car itself, which is valued at approximately Rs 9 lakh. A formal case has been registered at the Malamaruti police station.

The charges have been filed under sections 61(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, in addition to sections 25(1A) and 29(a) and (b) of the Indian Arms Act, 1959. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation into the matter is currently underway to uncover any additional details or connections.
