Bengaluru Police Face Serious Allegations After Youth's Death
A shocking case from Bengaluru's central business district has put the city's police force under scrutiny after an inspector and three other police personnel from Viveknagar police station were officially booked for their alleged involvement in events leading to a young man's death.
The case revolves around 23-year-old Darshan PG, a resident of Sonnenahalli in Viveknagar, who died under mysterious circumstances at Unity Foundation rehabilitation center in Makali, Adakamaranahalli.
Mother's Heartbreaking Account of Police Brutality
According to the FIR registered by Madayanakanahalli police, the complaint was filed by Darshan's mother, G Adilakshmi, who provided a detailed timeline of the tragic events.
"On the morning of November 13, three policemen came to our house and beat Darshan up before taking him with them," the grieving mother stated in her complaint. She revealed that her son had been arrested a couple of months earlier for a street fight but was released on bail.
The police allegedly took Darshan for threatening food delivery agents with a machete. What happened next would turn into every parent's worst nightmare.
"On the evening of November 14, police asked me to shift him to a rehab centre," Adilakshmi recounted. Following police instructions, Darshan was moved to Unity Foundation rehabilitation facility.
Tragic Discovery and Suspicious Injuries
The family's ordeal reached its tragic conclusion on November 26 when rehabilitation center staff informed Adilakshmi that her son had died due to breathing problems.
However, when the family saw Darshan's body at Nelamangala government hospital, they discovered disturbing evidence suggesting their son suffered more than just breathing issues.
"There were branding marks on his chest and back. His hands and legs were swollen," the mother described in her complaint, painting a picture of potential torture and neglect.
Adilakshmi firmly believes that her son's death resulted from injuries caused by Viveknagar police combined with negligence by the rehab center staff.
Police Version Contradicts Family's Claims
While the family alleges police brutality, a senior police officer has presented a completely different version of events. The officer maintained that police personnel did not beat Darshan at any point.
"It is true that he was detained in the early hours of November 13 because he was threatening food delivery agents with a machete," the officer acknowledged, confirming the initial reason for Darshan's detention.
The police claim they were actually helping the family by assisting with Darshan's transfer to the rehabilitation center due to his condition. The officer even stated that police provided financial assistance to the family during this difficult time.
"We suspect that something went wrong in the rehab centre," the officer claimed, shifting responsibility entirely to the rehabilitation facility staff.
Legal Action Expands to Include Rehabilitation Center
The case has now expanded beyond the police personnel, with staff members of Unity Foundation rehabilitation center also facing charges for allegedly causing the youth's death by failing to provide proper medical treatment.
This development suggests investigators believe there might be truth to the family's claims about medical negligence at the facility.
The case continues to develop as authorities investigate the conflicting accounts between the police version and the family's allegations. Both the Viveknagar police personnel and the rehabilitation center staff now face serious legal consequences for their alleged roles in the tragic death of the young Bengaluru resident.
