The Cyber Crime Police in Bengaluru have made significant headway in a case of online harassment, arresting two individuals from starkly different professional backgrounds. The arrests target an auto-rickshaw driver and a software engineer, both accused of posting obscene and derogatory content against a woman on social media platforms.
The Complaint and Police Action
The case originated from a formal complaint filed by the victim at the Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police Station on December 24. She alleged that a group of individuals was persistently targeting her and her family with abusive and defamatory posts on various social media channels. In her complaint, she specifically named 18 persons and sought legal action against them.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the cybercrime unit launched a detailed investigation. Officers meticulously tracked the offensive messages across platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Using digital footprints and technical expertise, the police successfully identified two of the accused.
Identities of the Arrested Accused
In an official statement released on Friday, the Bengaluru police disclosed the identities of the two apprehended individuals. The first accused is Chandrashekar B, 45, an auto-rickshaw driver and a resident of Chikkabanavara in Bengaluru. The second is Nithin, 31, a software engineer hailing from Davanagere.
"Both individuals have been secured and further investigation is under process," the police statement confirmed. The arrests highlight that cyber harassment is not confined to any particular social or professional group and can involve individuals from all walks of life.
Ongoing Manhunt for Remaining Accused
While two arrests mark a crucial step, the investigation is far from over. The police have emphasized that a concerted search operation is actively underway to locate and apprehend the remaining 16 accused named in the complaint. Authorities are leveraging their cyber-forensic capabilities to trace the other individuals involved in the alleged harassment campaign.
