Lamborghini Drifting Stunt in Bengaluru Sparks Police Probe, Traced to Underworld Figure's Son
In a dramatic escalation of a case that began with a viral video, Bengaluru police have traced a high-end Lamborghini involved in a pre-dawn drifting stunt to the residence of Ricky Rai, the son of the late underworld figure Muthappa Rai. The incident, which occurred near Anil Kumble Circle on MG Road, has drawn intense scrutiny from authorities and the public alike.
Viral Video Leads to Swift Police Action
The controversy unfolded when a video, widely shared on social media platforms on Saturday morning, captured the Lamborghini performing controlled skids and drifts between 2am and 3am. Acting suo motu, the Cubbon Park traffic police initiated an inquiry within hours of the video going viral. By late Saturday, a dedicated police team had successfully tracked the luxury vehicle to Rai's residence located in RMV Extension near Sankey Tank in the upscale Sadashivanagar neighborhood, where they promptly seized the car for further investigation.
Dangerous Driving on Public Roads
Drifting, a stunt where the driver deliberately oversteers to cause the rear wheels to lose traction and slide while navigating turns, is typically reserved for controlled environments like racetracks. Executing such maneuvers on public roads is considered extremely hazardous due to the significant risk posed to other motorists and pedestrians. The police complaint, filed by constable Shanmukha N, explicitly states that the act created a serious hazard and distracted other road users, leading to legal repercussions.
Legal Proceedings and Ownership Verification
According to a senior police officer, two formal notices have been served to Ricky Rai—one late on Saturday and another on Sunday—demanding his appearance before the investigating officer. As of now, Rai has not responded to these summons. Investigators have also uncovered that the Lamborghini was originally registered under the name of a Delhi-based individual before being sold to Rai. Police are currently liaising with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to verify the current ownership records and ensure all legal protocols are followed.
Ongoing Investigation and Charges
CCTV footage from the vicinity indicates that two individuals were inside the car during the stunt, but authorities have yet to conclusively identify the driver at the time of the incident. A case has been officially registered under multiple sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 184 for dangerous driving and Section 189 for racing and speed trials, along with Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving on a public way. Police have affirmed that efforts are actively underway to identify the driver and initiate further legal action to address this breach of public safety.
