Bengaluru Driver Stabs Ex-Girlfriend, Tries Suicide

Attack at Ramagondanahalli Home

A 26-year-old driver was booked for allegedly stabbing his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend multiple times at her residence in Bengaluru on Thursday, before attempting suicide by inflicting injuries on himself, police said on Friday. The incident occurred around 9:30 am at Ramagondanahalli in Varthur.

According to police, the accused, identified as Bande Nawaz, entered the house of Nandita Das and stabbed her on the neck, hands, palms, ribs, and thighs with a knife. He later inflicted injuries on his own neck in an apparent suicide attempt, a police officer said.

Victim's Parents Were Away; Siblings Locked in Room

The woman's parents were away at the time. Police said the accused had allegedly locked her two younger brothers in a room before attacking her in the hall. Despite sustaining multiple injuries, the woman managed to run out of the house and screamed for help, they said. Neighbours alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted both the woman and the man to separate hospitals.

Relationship Turned Sour After Rejected Marriage Proposal

A police officer said the two studied together at a private school and knew each other for three years. Preliminary investigation revealed that they were earlier in a relationship. However, the woman allegedly rejected his marriage proposal after her parents fixed her marriage with another man. Upset over the rejection, the accused allegedly attacked her before attempting suicide, police said.

Accused's Background and Legal Action

Police said Nawaz worked in Nellurahalli, Whitefield, as a driver, and stayed in Tubarahalli, Varthur. The injured woman is undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital and is recovering, while the accused is being treated at Vaidheyi Hospital. A case has been registered under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder), police added.
