Bengaluru Gangrape Investigation Intensifies with Three Fresh Arrests
In a significant development in the Jakkur villa gangrape case, the Amruthahally police in Bengaluru have made three additional arrests, raising the total number of individuals apprehended to five. The case involves the alleged sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu, which has sent shockwaves through the city.
Details of the Newly Arrested Accused
The three newly-arrested individuals have been identified as Shravan, 21, a native of Shivamogga; Anirudh, 33, from Davanagere; and Mohit Jain, 23, hailing from Gujarat. They join two previously arrested suspects: Dixon Santra, 21, from Kolkata, and Nikhil HD, 34, a real estate businessman residing in Sakaleshpura, Hassan district.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) GK Mithun Kumar, these fresh arrests were executed based on confessions obtained from the two men arrested earlier. The newly apprehended accused are alleged to have supported the crime in various capacities, providing logistical assistance that facilitated the incident.
Survivor's Harrowing Account and the Alleged Honey-Trap
The survivor, a graduation student at a private college in Bengaluru, has provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the assault. She stated that she initially connected with Dixon Santra on Instagram, where he allegedly trapped her under the pretext of love. Dixon then invited her to a party at a villa in Jakkur on the night of February 14.
In the early hours of February 15, the woman arrived at the villa accompanied by a friend. There, Dixon introduced her to Nikhil HD. The survivor alleges that she was coerced into consuming a pill, which caused her to feel dizzy and become semi-conscious. While in this vulnerable state, she was reportedly sexually assaulted by two men.
Police Investigation and Logistical Support Uncovered
The complaint was formally lodged after Nikhil HD approached the Malleswaram police, accusing the survivor of a honey-trap attempt—a claim that has since been contradicted by the investigation. A senior police officer revealed that Anirudh, who works as a contractor, allegedly assisted in booking the villa used for the party. Notably, this villa belongs to an IPS officer, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
Other accused individuals are said to have provided additional logistical support, including arranging a car for the event. Police have clarified that the IPS officer had rented out the villa to one person, who subsequently sub-leased it to a third party. Authorities emphasize that the officer was completely unaware that the premises were being used for such an illicit gathering, and there is no indication of his involvement in the crime.
