A 45-year-old grocery shop owner in Doddaballapur, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, died after being electrocuted by a live wire at his store on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The incident occurred in the afternoon when the victim, identified as Ramesh, was handling electrical equipment near the shop's entrance.
Details of the Incident
According to the Doddaballapur police, Ramesh came into contact with a frayed electrical wire that was exposed due to recent rains. The live wire caused a severe electric shock, leaving him unconscious. Neighbors rushed him to Doddaballapura Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival despite attempts at resuscitation.
Official Statement and Investigation
Senior police officer S. Kumar said, 'The victim sustained serious injuries from the electrocution and was taken to the hospital immediately, but he succumbed despite treatment. We are investigating the cause of the exposed wire and whether any negligence was involved.' The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are examining the shop's electrical setup.
Impact and Safety Concerns
The death has raised concerns about electrical safety in the area, especially during the monsoon season when exposed wires become more dangerous. Local residents have demanded stricter enforcement of safety regulations by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM).
