A mobile phone accidentally left behind by one of the perpetrators became the pivotal piece of evidence that enabled police to crack a bold armed robbery at a jewellery store on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The incident, which unfolded on the night of January 27, saw a gang armed with a country-made pistol storm into Ramdev Jewellers located in Dasanapura, Madanayakanahalli. The criminals swiftly made off with approximately Rs 50,000 in cash along with a significant quantity of gold ornaments, executing the heist in a matter of minutes.

Despite the robbery's brief duration, the gang committed a crucial mistake while fleeing the scene. Police investigators recovered a mobile phone from inside the shop, which the store staff confirmed had been dropped by one of the miscreants during the chaotic escape. This seemingly minor oversight provided law enforcement with a direct lead to identify the individuals involved.
The handset was traced back to Arun J, a hotel waiter in his late 20s hailing from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. An analysis of the phone's call records revealed that Arun had been in frequent contact with a Bengaluru-based mobile number registered under the name Anoop Singh. This connection immediately shifted the investigation's focus towards uncovering the network behind the crime.
Coordinated Police Operation Across States
Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the police launched a coordinated operation spanning two states. One team was dispatched to Rajasthan to verify Arun's background and gather further details about his involvement. Simultaneously, another team in Bengaluru traced Anoop Singh to a sari shop in Kadugodi, where he was employed as an assistant. Singh was apprehended and, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to his role in the robbery.
His confession unveiled that the heist was meticulously planned in collaboration with his friend, Ankith Nath, primarily to settle mounting debts.
