Shocking Murder in Bengaluru: Friend Kills Construction Labourer, Stuffs Body in Gunny Bag
In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community, a 42-year-old man was brutally murdered by his friend after a drinking session near Kick Bunk Bar in RK Township Layout, Yarandahalli, near Bommasandra. The gruesome crime occurred on the night of March 25, with the accused later attempting to conceal the body in a plastic gunny bag before fleeing the scene.
Victim and Accused Identified as Construction Labourers
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Nayak, a construction labourer who resided with his wife Pushpa in a rented house in Police Layout, Yarandahalli. The accused, Basudev Mallick, aged 30 and a native of Odisha, also worked as a construction labourer alongside Nayak. Both men were known to each other, making the betrayal all the more shocking.
Discovery of the Body and Police Alert
On March 26, Pushpa approached her house owner, Anand N, to report that her husband had gone missing. She explained that Nayak had last been seen at home around 2 pm on March 25 for lunch and had not returned since, with his phone remaining unreachable. Anand, along with Pushpa and her relatives, immediately launched a search operation.
Their efforts led them to an empty space near the bar, where they discovered a suspicious gunny bag. Upon opening it, they were horrified to find Nayak's body stuffed inside at approximately 4 pm. Anand promptly alerted the police by calling the emergency helpline 112.
Police Investigation Reveals Motive of Infatuation
The Hebbagodi police swiftly arrived at the scene and determined that Nayak had been killed by having his throat slit. A murder case was registered, and during the initial investigation, it was uncovered that Nayak and Mallick had purchased liquor together at a bar earlier that evening. Following these clues, the police intensified their search for Mallick.
After apprehending the accused, investigators learned that Mallick had allegedly developed romantic feelings for Pushpa. He believed that eliminating Nayak would clear the path for him to pursue a relationship with her. This infatuation served as the primary motive behind the heinous act.
Details of the Murder and Aftermath
On the fateful night, Mallick targeted Nayak while he was under the influence of alcohol. Using a knife, he slit Nayak's throat, killing him instantly. In a desperate attempt to hide the crime, Mallick stuffed the body into a gunny bag and planned to dispose of it elsewhere. However, upon noticing people near the bar, he panicked and abandoned the body in the empty space.
During interrogation, Mallick revealed to the police that a few days prior to the murder, Pushpa had confided in him about her marital struggles. She mentioned that Nayak would often assault her over trivial issues, especially when intoxicated, and that he frequently fought with her after returning from work. Mallick, driven by his feelings for her, decided to take matters into his own hands and kill Nayak.
Police Recovery and Clarification on Wife's Role
The police have successfully recovered the murder weapon, the knife, from the accused. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronics City) M Narayana has clarified that Pushpa played no role in the crime. He emphasized that she had merely shared her personal ordeal with Mallick and sought emotional support, with no involvement in planning or executing the murder. Further investigation into the case is currently underway to uncover any additional details.
