Bengaluru Pub Manager Arrested for Assaulting Police Officers in Drunken Rampage

In a shocking incident that unfolded in the early hours of April 8, a 26-year-old pub manager was arrested in Bengaluru for creating a violent disturbance and assaulting police officers. The episode occurred around 2 a.m. on Neeladri Road in Electronics City, highlighting concerns about public safety and alcohol-related misconduct.

Details of the Incident

The accused, identified as Saikumar Reddy, a resident of Gururaghavendra Nagar in JP Nagar 7th Phase, was reportedly intoxicated when he began causing a ruckus outside the SLR bar near the PCR junction. According to the complaint filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Siddarama KS, aged 45, Reddy was repeatedly banging on the shutter of the closed bar, shouting abuse, and demanding alcohol. He also directed his aggression towards bystanders and passersby, escalating the situation.

ASI Siddarama and Constable Mutturaj, aged 30, were on night patrol duty when they received a message about the disturbance. Upon arriving at the scene around 1:45 a.m., they found Reddy in a highly agitated state. The bar cashier, Ramesh, had attempted to calm him down, but Reddy claimed to be a "manager of a pub" and insisted on being served liquor, even threatening to damage the shutter with a stone.

Assault on Police Officers

When ASI Siddarama intervened and informed Reddy that the bar was closed, the situation turned violent. Reddy allegedly abused the officers, grabbed Siddarama's uniform, punched him in the face, and tore his shirt during the scuffle. Constable Mutturaj rushed to assist but was also manhandled by the accused.

Reddy attempted to escape by pushing the officers and looking for objects to throw at them. However, he was eventually subdued and taken to the police station in a Hoysala vehicle. During transit, he continued to shout and threaten the officers, boasting that he was a wealthy businessman who could have them dismissed from service.

Aftermath and Legal Action

ASI Siddarama sustained injuries in the altercation and was treated at a private hospital. A case has been registered against Saikumar Reddy under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  • Section 132: Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty.
  • Section 351: Criminal intimidation.
  • Section 352: Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

Reddy has been remanded in judicial custody, and police are investigating the incident further. This case underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in dealing with alcohol-fueled violence and the importance of maintaining public order in urban areas like Bengaluru.
