Bengaluru Property Manager Faces Attempted Murder Charges in Shocking Road Rage Case
A 52-year-old property manager from Bengaluru has been arrested and remanded to 14-day judicial custody following a terrifying road rage incident where he drove his Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) with a man clinging desperately to the bonnet. The accused, identified as Suresh Kumar, a resident of Pulikeshinagar in east Bengaluru, was produced in court on Thursday after his arrest under the stringent BNS Section 109 for attempt to murder.
Viral Video Captures Terrifying Ordeal
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, gained widespread attention after video clips of the harrowing event went viral on social media platforms. The footage shows the victim, Nanjunda, a flower vendor, holding onto the vehicle's wipers as the car accelerates through city streets, with other commuters shouting warnings that he could be killed if he fell.
Sequence of Events Leading to Dangerous Confrontation
The confrontation began around 12:30 PM on Wednesday near Trinity Junction when Suresh Kumar allegedly became enraged after a goods vehicle driver, Nanjunda, did not give way to his MUV. According to police reports, Suresh used abusive language against Nanjunda before driving away. Both vehicles subsequently stopped at the next traffic signal, waiting for the green light.
Nanjunda, who had been returning to his Tyagarajanagar home after purchasing flowers at Hoskote, approached Suresh's car window to demand an explanation for the verbal abuse. "I felt humiliated after the abuse," Nanjunda told investigators. "So, demanding an explanation, I went near Suresh's car window."
Instead of responding, Suresh attempted to drive away, prompting Nanjunda to stand in front of the vehicle to block its path. What happened next shocked witnesses: Suresh accelerated forward, causing Nanjunda to fall onto the bonnet. As the car gained speed, Nanjunda clung to the windshield wipers, pleading with Suresh to stop the vehicle.
Public Intervention Prevents Potential Tragedy
Other commuters witnessing the dangerous situation shouted warnings at Suresh, alerting him that Nanjunda could be killed if he fell from the moving vehicle. Despite these warnings, Suresh continued driving for approximately one kilometer before other commuters physically blocked the car, forcing him to stop.
Nanjunda immediately confronted Suresh after safely alighting from the vehicle. The entire incident was captured by multiple witnesses, whose video recordings subsequently went viral, drawing public outrage and prompting swift police action.
Legal Consequences and Judicial Proceedings
Suresh Kumar was arrested under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with attempt to murder. This serious charge reflects the potentially lethal nature of his actions during the road rage incident. Following his arrest, he was produced before a magistrate on Thursday, who ordered him to be remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
The case highlights growing concerns about road rage incidents in urban centers and the severe legal consequences that can follow such dangerous behavior on public roads.
