Tragic Fire Claims Life of Elderly Woman in Bettiah

A devastating fire broke out in a residential building in Bettiah on Monday evening, resulting in the tragic death of an 85-year-old woman. The incident occurred at a three-storey house located at Janata Chowk in West Champaran district.

The victim has been identified as Bulachi Devi, an 85-year-old resident of Janata Chowk. The property where the fire erupted belongs to a person named Jitendra Prasad.

Trapped in the Blaze

According to initial information provided by Town Police Station House Officer (SHO) Manoj Kumar Singh, the elderly woman was trapped on the first floor of the building when the fire spread rapidly. "Prima facie, it appears the woman was trapped on the first floor and died in the blaze," SHO Singh stated. He confirmed that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and that a further investigation is currently in progress.

Eyewitness Account and Rescue Efforts

Eyewitness Ramesh Kumar described the chaotic scene, stating that people suddenly saw smoke and flames billowing from the house. Locals rushed to the spot to help as the fire grew in intensity.

Three firefighting trucks were dispatched to the location after the fire department was alerted. Firefighters worked to bring the massive blaze under control.

In a desperate attempt to save her, family members and local residents pulled the woman from the burning house and rushed her to a hospital. Unfortunately, doctors at the medical facility declared her dead upon arrival.
