Major Fire Erupts in Bhavnagar Commercial Complex, Prompting Large-Scale Rescue Operation

A significant fire broke out on Thursday in the basement and storage area of a bustling commercial building located near Lila Circle in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. The incident triggered a swift and coordinated emergency response to ensure the safety of all occupants within the four-story structure.

Multi-Use Building Houses Hospital and Businesses

The affected building is a hub of commercial and medical activity, housing a variety of establishments. In addition to the hospital, the premises contain a bank, several tuition classes, a medical store, and numerous other shops and offices. The fire originated around noon within some waste material stored in the basement. Thick smoke quickly began billowing from the area, raising immediate alarms.

Fire Department Executes Critical Patient Evacuation

Upon receiving the emergency call, the Bhavnagar fire department sprang into action. A team of four firefighters was deployed to tackle the rapidly spreading flames. Their primary and most critical task was the safe evacuation of approximately 24 patients from the hospital located within the building.

P R Jadeja, the in-charge chief fire officer of the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, provided details of the rescue operation to the media. "We successfully rescued around 24 patients, which included five newborn infants, from the hospital premises," he stated. "The evacuation was carried out using multiple routes, including the main staircases, an emergency exit on the opposite side of the building, and with the assistance of stretchers for those unable to walk."

Swift Containment and Investigation

The firefighting team worked diligently to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other floors. As a precautionary measure, the entire building was completely evacuated. Thanks to their efforts, the fire was fully extinguished within approximately one hour of the response. Preliminary reports from sources indicate that the fire, which started in basement waste, caused significant damage, charring electrical wiring and other stored items in the area.

Miraculously, no casualties or serious injuries were reported in the incident. The successful evacuation of all patients, particularly the vulnerable newborns, highlights the effectiveness of the emergency response. Authorities are likely to conduct a thorough investigation into the exact cause of the fire to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
