Bihar Police Constable Succumbs to Heart Attack During Training Session in Rajgir
A tragic incident unfolded at the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Rajgir, Bihar, when a 35-year-old constable died of a heart attack on Sunday. The constable, identified as Vikas Kumar, was undergoing training at the centre and complained of severe chest pain during a session on Saturday.
Details of the Incident and Medical Response
According to police officials, Vikas Kumar collapsed while being transported to a private hospital in Nawada for emergency treatment. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared brought dead upon arrival at the medical facility. The sudden nature of the heart attack has raised concerns about health monitoring during rigorous training programmes.
Vikas Kumar, son of Ramashray Singh, hailed from Sondhi village under the Buniyadganj police station area in Gaya district. He had been serving with the Lakhisarai district police since joining the force in 2011 and was currently attending a mandatory training programme at the Rajgir centre to enhance his skills.
Post-Mortem and Family's Grief
A post-mortem examination was conducted at Nawada Sadar Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Following the tragic event, his wife Pooja Kumari, along with their two young children—an 8-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter—rushed to the hospital. The family is now grappling with the immense loss of their sole breadwinner.
Additional SHO of Nawada Sadar Police Station, Ram Iqbal Yadav, took custody of the body and facilitated its handover to the grieving family after the post-mortem procedures were completed. The police department has officially expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, acknowledging Vikas Kumar's service and dedication.
Broader Implications and Community Impact
This incident highlights the physical demands and potential health risks associated with police training, especially for personnel in demanding roles. It also underscores the need for regular health check-ups and emergency preparedness in training institutions across Bihar. The local community in Gaya and Lakhisarai districts has been left in shock, with many expressing solidarity with the constable's family during this difficult time.
As investigations continue, authorities are reviewing training protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The untimely death of Constable Vikas Kumar serves as a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in the line of duty, even during preparatory phases of their careers.
