Bihar Police Implements Nodal Officer System to Strengthen District-Level Policing
In a significant move aimed at tightening law and order and bringing greater transparency to district policing, Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has appointed senior police officers as nodal officers for various districts across the state. This strategic decision, which mirrors the state government's system of assigning districts to ministers and senior bureaucrats, is designed to improve coordination between district units and police headquarters.
An official order regarding these appointments was issued by the Police Headquarters on April 9, marking a new chapter in Bihar's policing framework.
Key Appointments and Responsibilities
Under the new arrangement, Additional Director General (ADG) Nayyar Hasanain Khan has been entrusted with the responsibility of Patna district. Drawing on his extensive experience as Patna's senior superintendent of police and zonal inspector general, Khan is expected to play a pivotal role in monitoring law and order and assisting in the resolution of major criminal cases. His deep familiarity with the district's geography and crime networks positions him as a crucial asset in enhancing policing effectiveness.
Similarly, several other senior officers have been assigned key districts:
- ADG Ravindran Shankaran has been assigned Gaya.
- ADG Amit Kumar Jain will oversee Saran and Buxar districts.
- ADG R Malar Vizhi has been given charge of Nalanda.
- Inspector Generals Sanjay Kumar and Premlatha have been appointed for Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur, respectively.
Focus on Naxal-Affected and Border Regions
The appointments also place special emphasis on strengthening policing in Naxal-affected and border regions. ADG Amit Lodha will oversee Lakhisarai and Sheikhpura, while ADG Sanjay Singh has been made responsible for Siwan and Purnia. ADG Ajitabh Kumar has been assigned Gopalganj and Khagaria.
Furthermore, DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon has been given charge of Rohtas, and DIG Harpreet Kaur will oversee Bhabhua, with both officers expected to focus on enhancing security in these sensitive areas.
Additional Postings to Combat Infiltration and Smuggling
In another set of postings aimed at tightening checks on infiltration and smuggling in border districts, IG Ranjeet Kumar Mishra has been allotted Madhubani, IG P Kannan will handle Jamui and Araria, and IG Anusuya Ransingh Sahu has been assigned Aurangabad.
Other notable appointments include ADG Kamal Kishore Singh overseeing Samastipur, IG Manoj Kumar taking charge of Vaishali, DIG Anand Kumar handling East Champaran, and DIG Meenu Kumari overseeing Begusarai.
Expected Outcomes and Operational Framework
As per the new system, nodal officers will be required to regularly visit their assigned districts, review pending cases, and provide guidance to local police officials. This hands-on approach is expected to foster greater accountability, enhance coordination with police headquarters, and strengthen overall policing across Bihar.
The initiative represents a proactive step by the Bihar Police leadership to address challenges in law enforcement through improved supervision and strategic oversight at the district level.
