Bihar Police Personnel Honored with Prestigious Republic Day Awards
In a significant recognition of bravery and dedication, three officials and personnel from the Bihar Police have been selected for the gallantry award on the occasion of Republic Day. The awards, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday, highlight exceptional courage and devotion to duty among the state's law enforcement officers.
Gallantry Award Recipients
The gallantry award has been conferred upon Director General of Police (Operations) Kundan Krishnan, Sub-Inspector Arjun Lal, and Constable Jitendra Singh. Kundan Krishnan was specifically honored for his excellence in field duty, notably for suppressing a prisoners' revolt at Chhapra Jail in 2002. During this critical operation, 28 police personnel, including Krishnan, sustained injuries, and four prisoners lost their lives. Despite these challenges, the situation was successfully brought under control, preventing any mass escape from the prison.
President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service
For distinguished service, the President's Police Medal has been announced for two officers: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umesh Lal Rajak and Sub-Inspector Navratna Kumar. This prestigious medal is awarded for exemplary and outstanding work in the police service over a long period, recognizing their sustained contributions to maintaining law and order.
Meritorious Service Medal Honorees
A total of 17 police officers and personnel will receive the Meritorious Service Medal for their exceptional service. The recipients include prominent figures such as:
- Inspector General Daljeet Singh
- Assistant Inspector General Rajiv Ranjan-II
- Commandant Ajay Kumar Pandey
Additionally, other personnel honored with this medal are:
- DSP Shailesh Mishra
- Sub-Inspectors Md Ainul Haq, Rishikesh Kumar, Manoj Kumar, and Nikku Kumar Singh
- Assistant Sub-Inspector Nagendra Pandey
At the ground level, head constables and constables who provided excellent service will also be recognized. These include:
- Head Constables Sanjay Kumar Singh, Sukda Urao, Dharmendra Kumar, Jawahar Lal Mandal, Umesh Kumar Singh, Om Prakash, and Md Rafi
- Constable Manoj Kumar Singh
Recognition Beyond State Police
In addition to the Bihar Police personnel, two officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will also be awarded the Police Medal for meritorious service. DSP Ruby Chaudhary and Head Constable Bhola Rai will be recognized for their effective action against corruption and successful investigation of complex cases, showcasing the broader impact of law enforcement efforts.
