Bihar Police Launches Extensive Jail Raids Across 18 Districts in Major Law Enforcement Drive
In a significant statewide crackdown following the establishment of a new government in Bihar, police forces executed simultaneous raids in jails across at least 18 districts on Friday. This coordinated operation aimed to strengthen law and order and curb any illicit activities originating from within prison facilities.
Targeted Districts and Operational Focus
The raids spanned districts including Siwan, Nalanda, Samastipur, Aurangabad, Bhojpur, East Champaran (Motihari), Supaul, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Vaishali, Munger, Kishanganj, Katihar, West Champaran (Bettiah), Saharsa, Buxar, and Muzaffarpur. Police teams meticulously searched barracks, toilets, kitchens, and high-security wards housing notorious criminals as part of efforts to enhance security and monitor illegal operations.
Detailed Raid Operations in Key Districts
In Nalanda, district administration and police teams entered Biharsharif Mandal Jail around 4 am. District Magistrate Kundan Kumar and Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni supervised the three-hour operation, which involved over 100 personnel such as Additional District Magistrates, Sadar Sub-Divisional Officers, and multiple Deputy Superintendents of Police from cyber, law and order, headquarters, and security wings. No objectionable items were discovered, and the jail accommodates approximately 925 inmates.
At Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail in Muzaffarpur, District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen and Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra led the raid starting around 4:30 am. Police conducted thorough searches of all wards, with a particular focus on high-security blocks, lasting nearly three hours without any contraband recoveries.
In Aurangabad, District Magistrate Abhilasha Sharma and Superintendent of Police Ambrish Rahul jointly oversaw the inspection at Mandal Kara. The operation included Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer Santan Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Line Deputy Superintendents of Police, Traffic Deputy Superintendents of Police, and around 230 police personnel. Searches covered male and female wards, the kitchen, jail hospital, and the entire campus, yielding no objectionable items.
In Motihari Central Jail, a team led by District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal carried out a two-hour search operation beginning around 5 am, checking barracks and other sections without any recoveries. Similarly, in Samastipur Mandal Jail, the raid occurred late Thursday night from approximately 10:15 pm to midnight, involving Assistant Superintendent of Police Sanjay Pandey, all Deputy Superintendents of Police, five inspectors, 58 officers, and 251 police personnel in intensive searches that found no contraband.
Outcomes and Implications
Police sources confirmed that no objectionable items were recovered in any of the districts during this extensive drive. This operation underscores the government's commitment to tightening security measures and preventing criminal activities from within prison systems, reflecting a broader initiative to improve public safety and law enforcement effectiveness in Bihar.
