Bihar Police's Advanced Training School Boosts Officer Capabilities with Modern Techniques
In a significant development for law enforcement training in Bihar, the Advanced Training School (ATS) at the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir has emerged as a cornerstone for enhancing police expertise. Additional Director General (ADG) of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Parasnath, highlighted the school's achievements during a press conference on Monday, emphasizing its role in providing specialized training to officers.
Expanding Training Programs and Collaborations
Since 2022, the ATS has trained over 3,100 police officers, with a curriculum that integrates modern technological tools essential for contemporary crime-solving. The training modules cover a wide array of subjects, including digital forensics, CCTV analysis, mobile data tracking, DNA analysis, fingerprinting, photography, and videography. This comprehensive approach ensures officers are well-equipped to handle evolving crime patterns.
Parasnath noted that the Bihar Police is actively collaborating with premier institutions such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to further enhance expertise. These partnerships aim to leverage national-level resources and knowledge, fostering a more robust investigative framework within the state.
Adapting to New Criminal Laws and Technological Demands
The ADG pointed out that rapidly changing crime patterns have necessitated an expansion of modern investigation training, particularly under the new criminal laws introduced in 2024. "The new criminal laws have laid strong emphasis on the use of technology in investigation and trial processes," Parasnath stated, underscoring the importance of aligning training with legal advancements.
To meet these demands, the Bihar Police has intensified in-service training for officers and personnel, focusing on making them more capable, better informed, and technically proficient in maintaining law and order. Officers initially receive foundational training at the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, followed by advanced in-service courses at the Higher Training School under the CID to improve the quality of criminal investigations.
Monthly Training Output and Recent Achievements
The school now trains approximately 350 officers every month through intensive two-week courses. Under this expanded program, significant milestones have been achieved:
- In 2025, 1,685 police officers at the level of inspector and directly recruited sub-inspector were trained.
- In 2026, 333 officers received training, bringing the total to 2,018 officers trained over the two-year period.
This structured training regimen ensures a steady pipeline of skilled personnel ready to tackle complex cases. Additionally, Bihar Police has been sending officers to reputed institutions across the country for specialized exposure, broadening their horizons and integrating best practices from other regions.
Preparations for National Police Competitions
Alongside regular training, Bihar Police has ramped up preparations for the 69th All India Police Duty Meet-2026, scheduled to conclude on April 3. A 46-member Bihar Police team will compete in six categories at this national event, showcasing their skills in various disciplines:
- Scientific aid to investigation: 15 personnel selected
- Computer awareness: 6 personnel selected
- Police photography: 3 personnel selected
- Police videography: 3 personnel selected
- Dog squad events: 10 personnel selected
- Anti-sabotage competition: 9 personnel selected
This participation highlights the department's commitment to excellence and continuous improvement, as officers apply their training in competitive settings to benchmark against national standards.
The efforts at the Advanced Training School reflect a proactive approach by Bihar Police to modernize its force, ensuring officers are adept at using technology and advanced methods to combat crime effectively. With ongoing collaborations and a focus on in-service training, the department aims to set a benchmark for police training in India, contributing to safer communities and more efficient law enforcement.
