Vigilance Bureau Nabs Two Revenue Officials in Bihar Bribery Sting Operations
The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) of Bihar executed two successful anti-corruption operations on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of two revenue department employees from separate districts. These arrests highlight the ongoing crackdown on corruption within the state's administrative machinery, particularly concerning land-related matters.
First Arrest in Nalanda District: Rs 45,000 Bribe Intercepted
In a meticulously planned operation in Nalanda district, the VIB team apprehended Akhilesh Sah, a revenue employee stationed at the circle office in Rajgir. The arrest occurred near the Leduwa bridge on Chhabilapur Road, where Sah was caught red-handed accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 45,000.
This action followed a formal complaint lodged by Rajiv Kumar, who alleged that the official was demanding illegal gratification to expedite a land clearance case. After thorough verification of the complaint and securing concrete evidence of the demand, the VIB registered a formal case and initiated a trap operation.
The investigation team, under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Akhilesh Kumar, laid an effective trap. They successfully caught the accused in the act of receiving the bribe money. Following preliminary interrogation, Akhilesh Sah is scheduled to be presented before the special vigilance court in Patna. Authorities have confirmed that further investigations into this case are actively progressing.
Second Arrest in Nawada District: Rs 35,000 Bribe Seized
In a parallel operation in Nawada district, the vigilance team arrested another revenue official, Gulshan Kumar, who was posted at the circle office in Roh. The arrest took place at the Sitapur Vanshichak turn, within the jurisdiction of the Roh police station area, where Kumar was intercepted while accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000.
This case originated from a complaint filed by Mantu Kumar, who accused the employee of demanding a bribe for processing land clearance-related documentation. Upon verifying the allegations and obtaining evidence of the illicit demand, the VIB registered a case and deployed a specialized team.
This team, commanded by Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar Srivastava, orchestrated a precise trap operation. The accused was arrested on the spot with the bribe amount in his possession. After necessary questioning, Gulshan Kumar will also be produced before the special vigilance court in Patna, as confirmed by an official VIB statement.
Broader Implications and Ongoing Vigilance Efforts
These arrests underscore the Vigilance Investigation Bureau's committed efforts to combat corruption at the grassroots level in Bihar. Targeting revenue officials involved in land clearance processes is particularly significant, as such cases often directly impact citizens and involve substantial financial stakes.
- The operations demonstrate the VIB's proactive approach in responding to citizen complaints and utilizing trap mechanisms to gather irrefutable evidence.
- Both cases involve similar modus operandi, where officials allegedly exploited their positions in land-related administrative procedures to extort money.
- The swift legal proceedings, with both accused slated for court production, reflect the state's stringent stance against corruption within its departments.
As investigations continue, these incidents serve as a stern warning to public servants engaging in corrupt practices, reinforcing the message that vigilance authorities are actively monitoring and will take decisive action against misconduct.
