A horrific family tragedy unfolded in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of a man and his two minor children. The incident, stemming from a domestic dispute, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The Incident: A Fatal Afternoon in the Jungle
The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Babu Ram, his five-year-old son Deepanshu, and three-year-old daughter Harshika. The family resided in Mubarakpur Khurd village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Heempur Deoria police station.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dr. Prakash Kumar, Babu Ram had been engaged in a dispute with his wife. The tension had been brewing for some days. His wife had recently returned on Friday from attending her brother's wedding, and another heated argument occurred between the couple on Saturday morning.
Sequence of Events and Discovery
In a state of extreme distress following the arguments, Babu Ram took his two young children to a nearby jungle on Saturday afternoon. There, he first administered poison to both Deepanshu and Harshika before consuming it himself.
The grim discovery was made by three villagers who had ventured into the forest to gather firewood. They alerted the village after finding the family in a critical condition. Family members and other villagers rushed to the spot and transported all three to a private hospital in Chandpur.
Unfortunately, both children were declared dead upon arrival at the medical facility. Babu Ram was admitted in an unconscious state but succumbed to the poisoning later in the evening, despite medical efforts.
Police Investigation and Family Account
Law enforcement officials, upon reaching the scene, initiated an investigation. The police took Babu Ram's body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The bodies of the children were initially taken home by grieving family members before also being sent for autopsy.
Babu Ram's father provided a statement to the police, confirming that his son had been experiencing persistent family disputes and disagreements with his wife. He indicated that the escalating tension had driven Babu Ram to take this extreme step. Babu Ram earned his livelihood by selling vegetables, pushing a cart through the locality.
SSP Dr. Prakash Kumar stated, "Babu Ram consumed poison along with his two children; all three have died. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. A thorough investigation of the case is being conducted. Prima facie it came to light that Babu Ram had a dispute with his wife."
The police are continuing their probe into the exact circumstances and the nature of the poison used in this heartbreaking case that has left a village in mourning.
