Incident on Khanna Highway
Two bike-borne assailants opened fire in front of a moving car on the Khanna national highway late Tuesday evening, targeting a Patiala-based professor. The incident occurred as Professor Suminder, also known as Sumair Seeda, was returning to Patiala from Rara Sahib Hospital with his driver. The assailants chased the car and fired two shots in the air after maneuvering in front of the vehicle.
Police Response and Evidence
After the attack, the professor dialed 112 to alert the police. A team arrived at the scene and collected evidence, including a video of the incident that surfaced and was seized by authorities. Professor Suminder suspected the weapon used was a countrymade firearm.
Extortion Video Call
The investigation took a new turn when the professor revealed he received a video call later that night demanding extortion. The caller identified himself as Dalender Soni, but police found no criminal or gangster under that name. Authorities are probing whether the caller is linked to the shooters.
Police Statement
A police official stated that all angles are being explored, noting that the suspects may have been following the professor from Rara Sahib to Patiala or were sent by a key conspirator. Khanna SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and assured that the case would be solved soon.
