Accused in Bike Theft Case Escapes from Siwan Police Lock-Up
In a significant security lapse, an accused involved in a motorcycle theft case managed to escape from the lock-up of Mairwan police station in Siwan district, Bihar, during the late hours of Friday night. The incident has prompted immediate disciplinary action against the responsible police personnel on duty.
Details of the Escape Incident
The escape occurred around 12:30 AM when the accused, identified as Firoz Ansari, broke through the wall of the detention cell washroom. He then exited through a window of an adjacent room, making his getaway undetected for approximately an hour before authorities discovered his absence.
Firoz Ansari had been arrested alongside Vishal Kumar on February 26 for their alleged involvement in stealing motorcycles from the English Mor area. Following their court appearance on Friday, both individuals were placed in the police lock-up for further interrogation procedures.
Immediate Police Response and Investigation
Upon learning of the escape, Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha swiftly arrived at the police station. He reprimanded the officers present and initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the security breach. A special tracking team has been formed with the specific mission of locating and apprehending the escaped accused.
As part of the disciplinary measures, SP Jha issued formal show-cause notices to two personnel who were on duty during the incident. The notices were served to Assistant Sub-Inspector Awadhesh Kumar, who served as the officer-in-charge, and an accompanying home guard personnel.
