A joyous birthday outing for a child descended into unimaginable tragedy in the early hours of Thursday when a high-speed truck violently collided with a stationary SUV near Murthal in Haryana's Sonipat district. The catastrophic incident claimed the lives of two women and left three others with critical injuries, casting a pall of grief over the family.
Details of the Fatal Collision on National Highway-44
The victims have been identified as Mandeep Kaur and her sister Manpreet Kaur, residents of Uttam Nagar in southwest Delhi. According to police reports, the family was traveling to the renowned dhabas of Murthal to celebrate a child's birthday. The accident occurred at approximately 2 am on National Highway-44, close to the Golden Hut Dhaba.
Investigations reveal that the family had momentarily stopped their SUV on the roadside to purchase essential supplies. It was during this brief halt that a truck, approaching from behind at an excessive speed, crashed directly into the stationary vehicle. The force of the impact was so severe that it completely crushed the rear portion of the SUV beyond recognition. The truck only came to a stop after plowing through the roadside safety railings.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Response
Tragically, both Mandeep Kaur and Manpreet Kaur succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Three other women who were traveling in the vehicle sustained critical injuries and were promptly rushed to a nearby private hospital following the arrival of police personnel.
In a distressing turn of events, the truck driver fled the accident site, abandoning the vehicle.
