BJP workers staged a protest outside the residence of expelled Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sandipan Saha in Kolkata on Thursday, raising slogans and demanding a thorough investigation into alleged land-related irregularities. The protest marked an escalation of political tensions in West Bengal over land acquisition and compensation issues.
Allegations of Land Grab and Fraud
BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal accused local authorities and individuals linked to the case of forcing poor residents to vacate their land under the pretext of a proposed dumping station. She claimed that compensation funds meant for affected families were allegedly misappropriated, leaving many without rightful dues. Tibrewal also alleged widespread illegal construction across several wards in Kolkata, involving the same individuals.
Demand for ED Investigation
The BJP delegation submitted documents and evidence to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), seeking a detailed probe into the matter. Tibrewal stated that the party would not tolerate any form of corruption or injustice and demanded strict action against those responsible. The allegations have sparked fresh political confrontation in West Bengal, with the BJP accusing the ruling TMC of shielding its leaders involved in land scams.
Political Fallout
The protest comes amid an ongoing political battle between the BJP and TMC over governance and development issues in the state. Land acquisition and compensation have been contentious topics in West Bengal, with previous instances of alleged irregularities leading to legal battles. The BJP's move to involve the ED signals its intent to escalate the matter beyond state politics.
Sandipan Saha, who was expelled from the TMC earlier this year, has denied all allegations, calling them politically motivated. However, the BJP insists that the evidence they have gathered is substantial and will lead to a fair investigation. The ED has not yet commented on the complaint.
