BJP Youth Wing Leader Arrested in Coimbatore for Gold Fraud Case

In a significant development in Coimbatore, the city police have arrested a local BJP functionary on charges of defrauding a jewellery store owner of a substantial quantity of gold. The incident, which came to light after months of alleged deception, has drawn attention to the misuse of professional trust.

Details of the Arrest and Accused

The arrested individual has been identified as V Manokaran, aged 36, a resident of Kempatti Colony in Coimbatore. Manokaran holds the position of Ukkadam zonal president within the BJP youth wing, adding a political dimension to the case. By profession, he is a goldsmith, which police say he exploited to carry out the alleged fraud.

Chronology of the Alleged Fraud

The case revolves around a business relationship between Manokaran and a jeweller named Narasimharaj, who operates a shop on Raja Street. According to police reports, for approximately nine months, Manokaran had been regularly receiving gold bars from Narasimharaj to craft jewellery as part of their professional arrangement.

On April 16, 2025, Narasimharaj handed over 141.180 grams of gold bullion to Manokaran for this purpose. However, over the subsequent months, Manokaran repeatedly failed to deliver the finished jewellery. When questioned by the jeweller, he consistently provided assurances that the ornaments would be completed within a few days, but these promises were never fulfilled.

Eventually, Manokaran ceased all communication and did not return either the crafted jewellery or the original gold bullion. Realizing he had been defrauded, Narasimharaj took formal action by filing a detailed complaint at the Bazaar Street police station, prompting a police investigation.

Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Based on the complaint, police registered a formal case and initiated a thorough investigation. The probe confirmed that Manokaran had misappropriated the gold for his own personal gain, leading to his arrest by the Coimbatore city police. Following the arrest, he was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody, marking a swift legal response to the allegations.

This case highlights issues of trust and accountability in professional dealings, particularly within the jewellery industry, and underscores the legal consequences of such fraudulent activities. The involvement of a political figure has added a layer of public scrutiny, with authorities emphasizing that the law applies equally to all individuals regardless of their affiliations.
