BMC Supervisor Assaulted in Bandra, Two Arrested

Mumbai: The Bandra police have arrested two individuals for allegedly assaulting a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) supervisor who was inspecting a complaint about an unauthorised tin shed on a terrace in the Chimbai Jetty area. The supervisor called the police helpline after being abused and attacked.

Incident Details

The accused have been identified as Mohammed Nadeem Mohammed Ayaz Sayyed, 42, an electrician, and Mohammed Ayaz Abdul Rehman Sayyed, 68, a rickshaw driver. Both are residents of Chandrama House in Chimbai, Bandra West. They were booked for allegedly assaulting and threatening a BMC staff member while he was examining a suspected unauthorised structure on Friday.

FIR Filing

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant, Anil Rathod, 45, is a BMC employee posted at the H-West Ward. He was directed by a junior engineer to investigate a complaint about an unauthorised shed on the terrace of a building in Chimbai.

Rathod stated that he reached the location around 11:30 am on Friday and observed a shed constructed with iron angles and cement sheets on the terrace of Chandrama House. While he was taking photographs of the structure as part of his official duties, two men approached him and claimed ownership of the premises. The civic employee informed them about the complaint regarding the alleged unauthorised construction and requested them to submit the necessary documents at the civic office.

The two men reportedly engaged in an argument, hurled abuses, grabbed Rathod by the neck, struck him on the face, and threatened him with dire consequences. Following the assault, Rathod contacted the police control room. The accused were later taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Legal Action

The police have registered a case against the duo for assault and criminal intimidation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the legality of the structure and any further violations.
