Varanasi: In a significant development, the body of a 50-year-old man, who died after being struck by a Thar vehicle in the Fariha market area under Nizamabad police station of Azamgarh district, was exhumed on Sunday for a postmortem examination. The deceased was initially buried without an autopsy following a mutual settlement between his family and the vehicle owner.

Police Action After Senior Officials' Intervention

Azamgarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Anil Kumar stated on Monday that the victim, identified as Shamshad alias Guddu, was buried without a postmortem after an agreement was reached. However, when senior officials learned of the incident, they ordered the exhumation of the body and the completion of all legal procedures, including a postmortem. An FIR has also been registered in connection with the case, the SP added.

Details of the Accident

According to police reports, the accident occurred around 7 am on Friday. A speeding Thar vehicle without a number plate collided with Shamshad, a resident of the Fariha area, while he was traveling on his motorcycle. The impact caused severe injuries, and he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital with the assistance of locals and police. Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to the district hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Initial Settlement and Subsequent Exhumation

Following the accident, the families of the deceased and the vehicle owner reportedly reached a settlement, which led to no complaint being filed and the body being buried in the village graveyard without a postmortem. However, after the matter came to the attention of higher authorities, the exhumation was ordered to ensure justice and adherence to legal protocols.

The police have registered an FIR and are investigating the incident further. The postmortem results are awaited to determine the exact cause of death and to proceed with legal action against those responsible.
