Girl's Body Found Stuffed in Sack, Mob Kills Suspect
The body of an 11-year-old girl who went missing a day earlier was recovered in the Baruipur area of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Sunday. The discovery triggered a mob lynching of a man accused of her rape and murder, police said.
The girl's body was found stuffed in a sack in the Surjyapur Haat area in the morning. Enraged locals blocked the Baruipur-Joynagar Road, burnt tyres, and damaged several police vehicles, demanding the arrest of those responsible, a senior officer reported.
Mob Violence and Police Response
A man was beaten to death by the angry mob on suspicion of involvement in the girl's death, confirmed Inspector General of Police, Presidency Range, Kankarprasad Barui. Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the girl's death.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari spoke to the victim's father over the phone, assuring him that the culprits would be dealt with strictly and punished according to the law, sources said.
Appeals to Lift Blockade
IGP Barui urged protesters to lift the road blockade, announcing that everyone associated with the crime would be arrested and face maximum punishment after trial. "Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari called me up and said action will be taken against all the culprits and they would be punished," the officer told the crowd via megaphone.
Barui said he would meet the deceased girl's parents on Tuesday and promised all assistance. Stating that raids are underway to nab the culprits, the IGP declared, "No one will be spared." The protesters then allowed the body to be sent for post-mortem examination.
Alleged Bid to Stop Mamata's Visit
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleged on Sunday that barricades were placed with heavy police deployment outside the residence of former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to prevent her from visiting the victim's family.
